ELP awarded Bronze Award

At the Akron Public Schools Early Learning Program (ELP), the staff have been implementing Tier 1 of Positive Behavior Support and Interventions for the last several years.   As part of Tier 1 of PBIS,  the staff uses three overall expectations, the main rules in the classroom, for the students.  The expectations are: Be Kind, Be Safe and Be Responsible.  These expectations are posted in all ELP classrooms and the staff refer to them throughout the day.   The staff uses bucket filling to reinforce positive behavior in the classroom.   For example, children are reinforced with a pom pom to put in a bucket when they engage in positive behaviors.  The whole class earns a reward once the class bucket is filled.   The staff also tracks problem behaviors and looks at the data to see behavior trends happening in our classrooms.   The staff received a bronze star for our implementation of PBIS through the state of Ohio which recognizes their excellence in using Tier 1 strategies with students for the 2020/2021 school year.
